Two award-winning California winemakers. From Orin Swift to Copper Cane, Joe and Dave have created Napa-defining and cult-favorite wines. That same passion, care, and quality go into every can of Cliché.
A 3rd generation Californian, winemaker and serial entrepreneur who has created many rule breaking and much loved wine brands such as Orin Swift, Department 66, l’usine, Locations and the Prisoner. Beyond wine, Dave also has developed Savage and Cooke distillery.
A 2nd generation winemaker in a family with a very deep history in Northern California. Joe has been successful at being ahead of the curve on wine styles and has developed an extremely successful portfolio of wineries under his Copper Cane Wine & Provisions, such as Belle Glos, Quilt, Elouan, Beran and Meomi.
Lemon and Blueberry
The flavor of blueberries brings Dave right back to his childhood. The Phinneys spent summers in Vermont where each family member had their own blueberry bushes to attend to year after year – a tradition forged over generations. Dave paired blueberry with the bold flavor of fresh lemons, inspired by the ones his botanist father grew in their backyard.

Mirabelle Plum and Hibiscus
The Wagner family settled in Napa in the 1850s where, among the many grapevines, there is a strong history of farming Mirabelle plums. Joe grew up eating them (he and his friends would steal them from a neighbor). He paired the nostalgic flavor with Hibiscus to create an unexpected and refreshing combination.
